Super Full Moon in Sagittarius (June 2022): Fired Up!
The moon made it’s last opposition to the sun for the 2022 spring season last week. This is also a supermoon, meaning the moon was at the closest point to the earth during it’s orbit. The supermoon amplifies the energy of the full moon. On the 13th, the moon will found itself at the midpoint of it’s cycle in mutable, fiery Sagittarius. Anytime the moon makes this lunar-solar aspect, we have a full moon. The entirety of the moon being illuminated by the sun is where the “full” part comes from. Speaking to energy, the full moon in every lunar cycle marks a period of clarity, release, cultivation, and often, heightened intuition and emotions. This full moon will be in the sign of the archer, which is ruled by Jupiter and associated with the ninth house (9H) in astrology, which makes this a great time to focus on our curiosity, spirituality, travel dreams, and plans for expansion.
The moon in Sagittarius
Sagittarius is a mutable sign (occurs at the end of the winter season) in the fire element. Sagittarius energy is adventurous, philosophical, charismatic, optimistic, and extroverted. The full moon falling in this sign will bring in an energy that ignites a fire within us, making us feel like we need to put our efforts into making good on the things we’ve been manifesting. The Sagittarius zodiac is considered the explorer, as it is associated with the constellation of the archer — who shoots his arrow then embarks upon a journey to retrieve it. So, expect to spend the next few weeks leading up to the Cancer lunar cycle actually putting in work on those plans that you’ve put in place for yourself. As this is a cultivation period, expect to see a return on the things you find yourself working on over the next few weeks up through the Sagittarius lunar cycle, in the winter around the Sagittarius new moon. Since the full moon is also a time that aligns with release, we may also find ourselves walking away from situations that no longer excite us, gaining new perspective into our personal progression, and tying up loose ends. Remember that Sagittarius is a fire sign, and the moon doubles a window into our feelings — so some of these instances may be a little…emotionally combustible. Sagittarius belongs to the fire element, which encompasses all things dealing with the action, drive, and vitality. This full moon in Sagittarius prompts us to set fire to all of the energetic debris and obstacles blocking the path to our intended success and contentment.
There will be a special aspect called a “tiny (or little) learning triangle” occurring at the time of the super full moon. This is a trine aspect that encompasses a square, sextile, and semisextile. The full moon will form a square to Neptune in Pisces. This will have you questioning yourself, the things around you, and your place in life. It will also bring in an energy of alignment, meaning the questions you have will be right on time for your journey. There will also be a sextile aspect formed between the supermoon in Sagittarius and Saturn in Aquarius. This will allow you to explore your questions, find answers, and move forward with your new knowledge. This energy will also help you move into a space of solidifying the foundations that are needed in your life. The last component of the tiny learning triangle is the semisextile formed between Saturn and Neptune. This lends an energy of introspection. You will not only have newfound knowledge, a new sense of perspective, but you’ll also be able to look within so that you can truly align yourself with the opportunities and success meant for you. This learning triangle has two planets that are considered to be “at home” in their respective signs (Neptune in Pisces; Saturn in Aquarius, traditional planetary ruler).
Sagittarius supermoon rituals
Intentions are a great way to manifest the things you want to see in your life. It’s best to do your moon rituals as close to the transit as you can, but realistically speaking, that isn’t always possible. If you can, try to at least get them done at some point during the shadow period, which is around three to four days leading up to and also following the full moon. As a last resort, you can do them at some point before the next new or full moon. Remember to look at what else the moon has going on and the sign that it’s in so that you can also incorporate these energies into your rituals. It is important to remember that the full moon marks the beginning of the end of a lunar cycle therefore, intentions shouldn’t be focused on bringing in anything new. Instead, write intentions with phrases like: “I release,” “I no longer,” and “I have clarity on/in” related to the Libra energy of this lunar transit. You can also include intentions speaking to cultivation like: “I am,” “I have clarity on,” and “I have the motivation I need for.” You can write your intentions on an index card or a small piece of paper and burn them (somewhere safe!). Another way to tap into this full moons’ vibes is by working with the fire element. Go outside and feel the sun on your skin (wear sunscreen though)!
Full moons and new moons are a great time to get in touch and in tune with our spiritual energy, sometimes called our “higher selves.” Working with colors, scents, and stones associated with the Sagittarius zodiac energy is one of the best ways to make the most of the spiritual tools you have available. Sagittarius colors include different shades of yellow, gold, and purple. Citrus sweet orange and lemon verbena are best to work with for this particular moon. You can also incorporate healing crystals into your spiritual rituals. A few Sagittarius stones that you can work with for the next few weeks are:Blue Lace Agate, Goldstone, and Yellow Topaz. You can either place these stones around you, wear or carry them, or meditate with them to get the full effects of their healing properties.
Don’t forget about Gemini…and get ready for Cancer!
The Sagittarius super full moon lands falls under the opposite sign, Gemini. The Gemini new moon was a couple of weeks ago (May 30) and set the tone for the duration of this lunar cycle, which will end when the moon makes its transit into the next sign, Cancer. While the Gemini themes will be a lot less intense moving away from that lunar transit, some residual energy will linger for about two weeks, or until we have the new moon in Cancer. You can also use the first couple of weeks in June to pair your Sagittarius full moon rituals with some Gemini new moon tools. A good way to mix in Gemini energy is to add a couple of Gemini crystals to your Sagittarius collection. A few Gemini crystals you could use are Lemon Quartz, Howlite, and Yellow Jasper. You can also incorporate the air element — just step outside and get some fresh air!
The Sagittarius supermoon energy will stay with us for about a month, or until we have the Capricorn super full moon (Jul. 13). The strength of the effects will be more prominent during the full moon shadow periods. Again, it’s better to do your moon rituals on during the transit however, if you’re unable to during that time, the shadow period is always a good second option (speaking to spirituality — it’s all about intention, do what works best for you…don’t worry about anybody telling you that you can’t do your rituals because the moon left a certain sign). This lunar transit will primarily affect individuals with natal Sagittarius moon placements, specifically in nine degrees or within the orb (six to seven degrees). People with a lot of Sagittarius, mutable, and fire placements in their chart(s) can expect for this to be a transformative time, even if it’s not clearly evident on a conscious level. Additionally, anywhere you find these placements in your chart can give you a hint as to what this new moon might bring in for you based on the surrounding planets, houses, and aspects.
