Wrapping up the winter season comes with a much anticipated energetic shift. March’s new moon will change the currents for us, and this is a good time to go with the flow to wherever they may lead. On the 2nd, the moon will find itself at the beginning of it’s cycle in mutable, watery Pisces. And, what does that mean? Anytime the moon is in conjunction to the sun, we have a new moon. The entirety of the moon seems to be hidden from view (although if you have good ol’ 20/20 you’ll be able to see a faint outline) in the night sky during this lunar transit. Speaking to energy, the new moon in every lunar cycle marks a period of anticipation, initiation, manifestation, and often, heightened intuition and emotions. This new moon will be in the sign of two fish, which is ruled by Neptune and associated with the twelfth house (12H) in astrology, which makes this a great time to focus on our spirituality, artistry, passions, and subconscious thoughts.
The moon in Pisces
Pisces is a mutable sign (occurs at the end of the winter season) in the water element. Pisces energy is gentle, imaginative, sensitive, intuitive, and welcoming. The new moon falling in this sign will bring in an energy that flows easily and will nudge us toward our heart’s desires. The Pisces zodiac is considered the psychic, as it is associated with the planet governing all things beyond the veil, spirituality, and intuition (Neptune). So, expect to spend the next couple of weeks leading up to the Virgo new moon feeling as if you are being Divinely guided in every move you make. As this is a manifestation period, expect to see a return on the things you find yourself working on over the next few weeks, toward the end of the summer season — around the Pisces full moon. Since the new moon is also a time that aligns with manifestation, we may also find ourselves making new connections, starting new projects, and exploring new places.
Pisces belongs to the water element, which encompasses emotions, spirituality, and creativity. This Pisces new moon prompts us to realign with our true desires while also getting serious about the work, and seeing it through to completion — creating successful and abundant outcomes. There might even be some surprise opportunities popping up for some over the next few weeks. We can attribute this to a conjunction aspect the moon makes to Jupiter and a sextile to Uranus. Jupiter transits are often associated with positivity, growth, and even some good fortune while Uranus transits are often associated with sudden, and unexpected changes (looking at your natal Jupiter and Uranus placement can give you an idea of how you may experience these themes during transits that activate these placements, as well as throughout your life). There is also a conjunction aspect between planets Mercury and Saturn occurring very shortly before the new moon, making it one of the more influential aspects which will encourage us to analyze our plans, tweak them, and move forward with diligence in achieving our goals.
Mars, Pluto, and Venus — oh, my!
These three planets also lend some influence to the energetic shifts that we’ll be experiencing over the next few weeks. At the time of the new moon Mars, Pluto, and Venus will all form conjunctions to one another. Venus governs the main themes of finance, love, and aesthetic in our lives; this transit will place an emphasis on intimacy and desire. Mars is the planet that governs will power and instinct. Mars’ inclusion will encourage spontaneity and charisma. Pluto is considered a transcendental planet, and brings the subconscious, regeneration, sex, life cycles, and transformation into focus. The combined influence of these three planets will bring about major shifts in areas concerning love, the things we truly want, and the things we truly need. As this is a time of manifestation and cultivation, any projects you start, or connections you make will most likely start to show a return of your efforts around the middle of the Pisces lunar year (full moon in Pisces; September 2022).
Pisces new moon rituals
Intentions are a great way to manifest the things you want to see in your life. It is important to remember that the new moon marks the beginning of the a lunar cycle therefore, intentions should be focused on bringing in something new. Write intentions with phrases like “I can,” “I do,” and “I am” related to the Piscean energy of this lunar transit. You can write your intentions in a new moon notebook, so that you can reference them later on in the year. Another way to tap into this new moons’ vibes is by working with the water element. Carve out some time over the next couple of weeks to take a spiritual bath, rinse your stones and ritual tools, or even go and take a dip in a natural body of water (just be safe and remember, it still looks a lot like Christmas in a few places)
New moons and full moons are a great time to get in touch and in tune with our spiritual energy, sometimes called our “higher selves. ” Working with colors, scents, and stones associated with the Pisces zodiac energy is one of the best ways to make the most of the spiritual tools you have available. Pisces colors include different shades of blues and green — aqua and teal are good colors for this zodiac sign. Crisp and clean smells are best to work with for this particular moon. A few stones that you can work with during the next couple of weeks are: Amethyst, Aquamarine, Blue Kyanite, Ethiopian Opal, Fluorite, and Peach Moonstone. You can either place these stones around you, wear or carry them, or meditate with them to get the full effects of their healing properties.
Don’t forget about Leo…and get ready for Virgo!
We are starting a new lunar cycle however we did have a Leo full moon a couple of weeks ago (Feb. 16). While the Leo themes will be a lot less intense moving away from that lunar transit, some residual energy will linger for a few weeks, or until we have the full moon in Virgo. You can also use the first couple of weeks in March to pair your Leo full moon rituals with some Pisces new moon tools. A good way to mix in Leo energy is to add a couple of stones to your Pisces collection. A few Leo stones you could use are: Amber, Danburite, Onyx (black and white), Pyrite, Tangerine Aura Quartz, and Sunstone. You can also incorporate the fire element into your rituals stepping outside to soak up a little bit of sun.
The Pisces new moon energy will stay with us for about a month, or until we have the Aries new moon (Apr. 1). The strength of the effects will be more prominent during the new moon shadow periods, which are typically about three to four days before and after the new moon. We will be working gradually on growth in our desired areas, reevaluating what we really want, realigning with our highest good, and preparing to step into new chapters. This lunar transit will primarily affect individuals with natal Pisces moon placements, specifically in 12 degrees or within the orb (six to seven degrees). People with a lot of Pisces, mutable, and water in their chart(s) can expect for this to be a transformative time, even if it not clearly evident at a conscious level. Additionally, anywhere you find these placements in your chart can give you a hint as to what this new moon might bring in for you based on the surrounding planets, houses, and aspects.
